Brendtro et al. (2008) found genetic evidences to identify distinct populations in the Indo-Pacific and Atlantic regions but considered that further research is advised to make concrete conclusions about the possible existence of distinct species. No assessment is known to be conducted, a management unit is considered within Ecuadorian waters.
