The population of blacktip sharks in the Gulf of Mexico is a distinct population separate from the northwest Atlantic population (SEDAR 2006). The management unit for blacktip shark covered in this report is U.S. waters from the Florida Keys westward throughout the Gulf of Mexico. Because only the commercial fleet is relevant to Fish Source, the recreational fleet is not explicity considered in the profile.
