Several species of cuttlefish species are fished in Western Africa; mainly common cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis), African cuttlefish (S. bertheloti) and giant African cuttlefish (S. hierredda), which are reported and assessed altogether. The CECAF working group adopted the Common octopus assessment units for cuttlefish as well: Dakhla (26°N-21°N), Cape Blanc (21°N-16°N) and Senegal-Gambia (16°N-12°N) (FAO 2018). This profile refers to the cuttlefishes Cape Blanc assessment unit (FAO 2023).
