The genetic structure of the population of Brownlip abalone is not well known (SCS Global 2017). But given their sedentary life history and their broadcast spawning, it is likely that there are isolated populations with some interconnectedness through temperate Western Australia. Note Brown lipped abalone (Haliotis rubra conicopora) is a sub-species of Blacklip abalone (Haliotis rubra).
