Southwest Atlantic red crab, Deep sea red crab

The red crab Chaceon notialis is endemic to the Southwestern Atlantic, found from 31ºS to 55ºS (Palomares and Pauly 2023). A recent study indicates that it is a single panmictic population, with no genetic structuring among the analyzed stocks (Da Silva Cortinhas et al. 2022). Fisheries of this species occur in Brazil and Uruguay only. A set of management measures are in place in Uruguay (DINARA 2021).
