Genetics studies of Spanish mackerel have found evidences of a single intermingling genetic stock in Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic ocean (Buonaccorsi et al., 2001). According to SEDAR (2013), two assessment units are defined: Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic US.
Note: This section covers the southern management area of the Western Atlantic group. The Western Atlantic group is thought to be a sub stock of the Western Atlantic Gulf of Mexico stock. Relationship among groups and, if they constitute a separate stock, is uncertain.
