This species is distributed in the western Atlantic along Central and South America from Nicaragua to southeast Brazil (Hornby et al. 2015) (Froese and Pauly 2019). Information regarding green weakfish stock structure could not be found thus a management unit within Surinamese waters is considered. It is a target in the gillnet fishery and a secondary species in the trawl finfish fishery.
