Gear inspections were conducted in December by Texas Sea Grant personnel; four boats were inspected in December and all TEDs were noted to be legal and compliant

Gulf of Mexico Shrimp Supply Chain Roundtable sent a letter out to producers asking for support for research so a complete bycatch profile can be identified for the shrimp fishery

Gear inspections were conducted in Florida by the NOAA Gear Inspection Team for the first time since pre-COVID. A total of 4 boats were inspected.

The GoM Shrimp Supplier Roundtable convened on May 4, 2021 to hold a webinar and discuss updates related to FIP progress

NOAA published 2020 shrimp opinion; opinion states TED compliance is likely lower when enforcement isn't looking and the information collected by fishery observers better reflects actual fishery performance and sea turtle interactions without law enforcement related bias.

On November 3, 2020 a letter was sent to NOAA Southeast Regional Office by the GoM Shrimp Roundtable 

'Resolving Barriers to Sustainable Fishery Certification for the Gulf of Mexico Federal Otter Trawl Shrimp Fishery' proposal presented to Saltonstall-Kennedy Grant Program.

Gear inspection report available for Florida pink shrimp showing data up until March '20. Low levels of non-compliance reported in March. No instances of major non-compliance. 

ASPA agreed to fund a study, at the direction of the Shrimp Roundtable, to verify the accuracy of the observer program e-logbook data; the project report has been made available

Researchers produced a descriptive assessment of the most prevalent finfish species and their susceptibility to overfishing in the US Gulf of Mexico penaeid shrimp fishery bycatch.

Buyers roundtable supports policy shifts to encourage gear modifications

Key findings of the bycatch characterization project are presented and highlight new information on these species which would inform management 

Increase in 2.3.3. BMT score. 3-year audit recovery funds have added 300 observer days per year in the Gulf of Mexico; comparison of ELB data with observer data shows comparable results

Gear inspections by NOAA in 2018 show all vessels legal and compliant

NOAA Fisheries posted an updated TED inspection and compliance report indicating that fleet-wide compliance with federal TED regulations during October 2011–September 2012 was 75 percent (an increase from the 66-percent compliance rate during May–November 2011) 

NOAA Fisheries established a new fleet-wide TED performance standard which limits the shrimp otter trawl fleet to an overall 12-percent sea turtle capture rate - Endangered Species Act Section 7 Consultation
