3. FIP Implementation	Feb 24	FIP activities undertaken 1 February 2024 — The FIP met with SharkGuard to discuss the possibility of hosting a pilot study on shark mitigation for the first time on an industrial vessel. The FIP is currently mapping out shark hotspots to identify areas where the pilot would have the best chance to demonstrate mitigation impacts. 2 October 2023 — The second surveillance audit report was published which demonstrates monitoring activities continued and compliance is still in place. 24 August 2023 — The FIP conducted a site visit and vessel audit to verify compliance and the availability of mitigation tools. 16 August 2023 — Skipper training was completed on two vessels; topics covered during the training included: the FIP and MSC processes, species identification, bycatch mitigation, best practice handling, and data entry following the ISSF skipper training guidelines 1 August 2023 — Under Solomon Islands' Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) plan to improve national consultation and decision-making process, MFMR is developing a national Tuna Management and Development Plan. A working draft of the plan has been made available. 1 August 2023 — In an effort to drive transparency and future improvements, all vessels are now listed on the ISSF PVR. 27 July 2023 — .The FIP held a meeting with the Taiwanese Fishery Authority (TFA) and Overseas Fisheries Development Council (OFDC) to discuss FIP engagement, observer data and ongoing actions progress. 1 July 2023 — The FIP sent an advocacy letter to the flag states ahead of the 2023 IATTC Annual Meeting 22 November 2022 — The FIP has sent observer data requests to TFA to obtain human observer data from Taiwanese-flagged vessels. 1 November 2022 — The FIP sent an advocacy letter to the flag states ahead of the 2022 WCPFC annual meeting 1 August 2022 — The FIP attended the 100th meeting of the IATTC; Vanuatu is beginning its internal review processes on its fishery-specific management system.
