Code of conduct for ghost gear and waste management has been finalized

Shark species encountered in the fishery have been assessed against their IUCN vulnerability status- the hammerhead shark has been identified as vulnerable. The result of this work has prompted the incorporation of eliminating the landing of protected species of shark into the management plan. 

Report on assessment of plastic waste and abandoned / lost fishing gear management has been made available. Plastic waste streams have been mapped and measured and plastic waste generated from fish packaging practices and gear loss have been identified.

Report completed on recent shark finning assessment; shark finning still present in about 10% of assessed cases. 

Interim harvest strategy published

A review of fleet composition data was completed; dropline and Longline vessels account for approximately 80% of the catch, and the remainder comprising vessels using multiple gears (mixed) gillnet and trap.

A snapper and grouper fisheries management planning meeting was held in November of 2019.

A risk assessment of shark bycatch in Indonesia snapper fisheries was prepared based on IUCN classifications.

MMAF Ministerial Decree no.123/ 2021 issued on December 27th, 2021 to prepare and establish a snapper and grouper fishery management plan.

In December 2019, MMAF has finally issued the Ministerial Decree No 33/2019 on Fisheries Management Council (FMC) for each WPP in Indonesia which outlines the function, structure, and work mechanism (SOPs) of the council. 

Increase in MSC PI score 1.2.3  - Target species catch data extended to include all species caught by method, representing a 5 % sample of total catch, fleet and effort.
