The FIP has reported a Fins Naturally Attached policy which prohibits shark finning. With this new stage 4 result reported, the FIP becomes A rated.

FIP Implementation	Mar 23	FIP activities undertaken 1 March 2024 — From October 2023 to March 2024, the FIP conducted 342 port samplings and deployed 12 onboard observers across its sites in both the WCPO and IO areas. 14 February 2024 — The FIP participated in a technical coordination meeting to discuss monitoring on fishing vessels and transhipment vessels. 17 January 2024 — The FIP participated in a Focus Group Discussion in Cirebon, West Java; the discussions centered around establishing standards for key data elements in fishing logbooks, analyzing data based on international standards, and planning technical meetings to develop implementation guidelines for the agreed KDEs and data analysis methods. 31 August 2023 — FIP participants actively supported and engaged in FCMC meetings in West and East Nusa Tenggara, addressing various fisheries management topics, including data collection, capacity building for fishermen, FAD management, quota-based fisheries, industry compliance, and the significance of sharing data with local authorities 28 August 2023 — The FIP hosted a working group meeting to determine social and economic indicators for inclusion in the national tuna management plan and the HS component to measure impacts in line with HS/ HCR implementation, with agreed sets of indicators and plans for further data gathering enhancement in the social and economic indicators field. 1 June 2023 — In June 2023, the Ministry Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) established the Harvest Strategy Document for Tuna for WPP 713, 714 and 715. The recommendations from those documents are spatial closure, FAD management strengthened and reduced catch production 10% for the next three years. 16 March 2023 — The FIP is supporting the preparation and implementation of the Tropical Tuna Fishery Harvest Strategy in Indonesia by attending and supporting various national meetings, including technical preparation workshops, meetings on the development of harvest strategy implementation, and a meeting to determine the roles of each partner in finalizing the harvest strategy framework; among the topics discussed were updated CPUE data and analysis selectivity, data preparation and cleaning, target and limit reference points and technical candidates for HCR and management measures. 6 March 2023 — The new regulation 11/2023 Penangkapan Ikan Terukur has been issued by the Indonesian government to establish a quota-based fishery system; the regulation will divide the country's waters into zones encompassing different Fisheries Management Areas (FMAs). 15 February 2023 — The FIP along with WWF facilitated a dialogue between multiple stakeholders to advocate the Harvest Strategy at the WCPFC level. 14 July 2022 — WWF and MDPI held a sub-regional hybrid meeting focused on driving dialogue between Indonesia and the Philippines to support harvest strategy implementation. 13 June 2022 — MDPI, BRIN and MMAF held a workshop on the harvest strategy and related data-collection efforts. 31 December 2021 — From September to December 2021 AP2HI and IPNLF recorded 387 port sampling events and had 6 onboard observer deployments which cover both WCPFC & IOTC areas. This data was submitted to MMAF for analysis. 10 December 2021 — AP2HI and IPNLF participated in the 7th technical and stakeholder workshop where harvest strategies were discussed. 7 December 2021 — Through the WCPFC's end of the year meetings, CMM 2014-06 was revised to include an updated workplan to adopt harvest strategies for skipjack and yellowfin tuna 7 December 2021 — IPNLF supported and joined WCPFC’s Scientific Committee and regular/ technical meetings; CMM 2021-01 was discussed and renewed 31 August 2021 — Nine new observer deployments occurred between April- August 2021. MMAF plans to recruit 20 new observers and have them trained by the end of 2021. 30 August 2021 — AP2HI, IPNLF and MDPI submitted data and participated in the Indonesian Tuna Fisheries Annual Catch Estimation (ITFACE) workshops, hosted by MMAF and SPC. 26 March 2021 — Pre-Technical Data Workshop was conducted to explore data sets from data contributors through several types of data collection 26 March 2021 — FAD research proposal; MMAF is in the process of revising the FAD regulation 1 March 2021 — New Observer decree published; there are now a total of 80 observers now compared to 60 observers last year 25 February 2021 — Harvest Strategy Tuna for IAW meeting was conducted 4 February 2021 — ETP handling training is ongoing; training workshop held in February 2021 1 August 2020 — AP2HI conducted training on handling ETP in August 2020 and also already have their 28 vessels out 89 vessels registered in IAW in adjacent to WCPFC 24 March 2020 — Total 226 fishing trips have been covered by observer from August 2018 until March 2020 are published 1 March 2020 — MAP of FAD usage for first tranche UoAs and habitat/depth as proxy are available. 27 February 2020 — AP2HI has joined MMAF training on observer in Tegal on 19th February 2020 and in North Sulawesi on 27th February 2020 (MoM attached). 5 December 2019 — IPNLF participated at the last WCPFC annual meeting (WCPFC16) in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea and traveled with the Indonesian delegation. 30 September 2019 — Indonesian government certified onboard observers have completed 1-year of observer deployments in 1st tranche UoAs. 30 September 2019 — Data from the first year of onboard observer deployments shows that little to no interactions of ETPs have been evident with only one instance of an interaction regarding a sea bird. 30 September 2019 — After 1-year of data collection by government certified onboard observers in first tranche UoAs, information is avaialble on the recruitment trends of fishing sets associated with FADs that include species distribution by volume and length. 25 September 2019 — Currently the WCPFC's 15th Regular Session of the Technical Compliance Committee is underway in Pohnepei, to assess the compliance status of member states. 24 September 2019 — The 15th Regular session of the Scientific Committee was conducted between Aug 12-19, 2019, in Pohnepei. 30 March 2019 — ETP species identification guides have been distributed to onboard observers. 10 December 2018 — WCPFC position statement paper 22 November 2018 — IPNLF, AP2HI and MDPI participated at the last Indonesian Archipelagic Waters (IAW) Harvest Strategy (HS) meeting in Bogor. 10 November 2018 — Trainings have happened in priority UoAs about ETPs, what they are, mitigation strategies to minimize the catch of ETPs, best practices on handling, and the legal repercussions.
4. Improved data gathering processes have been employed through on-board camera data and port sampling as well as the implementation of monitoring, control and surveillance systems. 12 November 2021 — Increase in PI 2.4.3; Three-year audit has been made available. The number and location of FADs associated with each UoA has been mapped in relation to bathymetric zones. Areas of protected habitat are known. 12 November 2021 — Increase to PI 2.5.3; three-year audit has been made available.
