The FIP conducted a recent data analysis; the analysis demonstrates that ETP species make up 1% of the total catch of the fishery with sharks recorded as the primary ETP species.

The FIP is engaging with SharkGuard in an effort to participate in a pilot study to reduce shark interactions through SharkGuard technology.

The FIP has updated its Fins Naturally Attached policy which highlights and clarifies that shark finning in the fishery is prohibited and sharks must be landed with their fins naturally attached.

KT and FCF have hosted two separate meetings to improve engagement with the stakeholders and fishers within the FIP; KT and FCF met with 50 companies in April 2022.

South Pacific Albacore Roadmap intersectional working group virtual meeting held

CMM 2015-02: China was noted as priority non-compliant for not limiting the number of Chinese-flagged vessels actively fishing for South Pacific albacore south of 20 south above 2005 or 2000-2004 levels

The "Western and Central Pacific albacore and yellowfin tuna longline Fishery Improvement Project: fleet data collection and reporting improvement plan" has been finalized and is now being implemented.

Letters sent to NOAA over management of tuna 

New measures were adopted at the 101st meeting of the IATTC including a harvest strategy for North Pacific albacore (including a harvest control rule) as well as interim reference points for skipjack tuna.

Increase to PI 2.1.2, 2.2.2., 2.2.3; data collected FIP has been analyzed in the three-year audit indicating that there no primary species in the fishery. New information - stage 4 result. 

Increase to PI 1.2.4; recent stock assessments have demonstrated that management advice is being applied, factors of uncertainty are being accounted for and alternative assessment approaches have been explored.
