A paper produced by researchers at XMU on seahorse species biodiversity in China has been accepted for publication in the journal Biodiversity Science. 

The FIP has updated its list of main secondary species using data from January 2019- April 2023. 

The FIP met with an expert from the Fujian Fisheries Research Institute; the expert recommended that support be given to the development of implementing rules for the Fisheries Law. The expert also recommended that more research on crab biology and life history be carried out.

XMU researchers are actively gathering catch data along with samples of Monomia haanii and Portunus sanguinolentus from dockside landings; catch, effort, and biological data continues to be monitored and analyzed. 

The FIP held a meeting with the Fujian Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries; recommendations were presented and discussed with the group including the proposed measure to protect the Spring spawning season.

The FIP has begun work on the stock assessment for the red swimming crab; preliminary fishing mortality parameters have been estimated from a LBSPR analysis

Secondary species impact evaluation report produced; the list of main and minor species within the fishery has been updated based on current data records. 

Policy recommendatons regarding management measures have been drafted in collaboration with CAPPMA and submitted to the Bureau of Fisheries and Fisheries Administration of MARA.

The FIP has published its first stock assessment

Increase to PI 2.3.2; the PRC's Wildlife Protection Law (Article 28) has been revised to restrict the capture and trade of ETP species and 14 seahorse species have been added to the list of Class II protected species. Data from the June 2022 Xiamen University monitoring report shows that seahorse bycatch decreased between 2021-2022 demonstrating that it's likely the UoA is not hindering ETP species recovery

An analysis of catch, effort and biological data has been conducted for the crab trawl fishery; the size composition for the red swimming crab has been identified and further information on seahorse bycatch has been collected
