The FIP conducted an analysis of the five demersal fish within the fishery using data collected from a total of 199 trips; the rocote constituted 93.6% of the total catches, followed by blanco with 4.7%, verdillo and vieja with 0.7% each, and bonita with 0.3%.

The FIP has implemented an internal agreement to continue fishing and using gear that have negative impacts on the ecosystem and through the mitigation of ghost gear.

The FIP held a meeting to discuss ongoing progress and activities; preliminary population data has been presented to the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Institute.

The FIP has submitted a draft manuscript on the interaction of impacts of the handline and trap fishery on the habitat for publication.

Finfish fishery population analysis carried out; goldspotted sand bass (30.64%), yellowtail amberjack (27.28%) and ocean whitefish (13.93%) were identified as the major species in the catch and 89.20% of the catch corresponds to the five target species of the FIP.

A spatial analysis was conducted to identify potential gear impacts to the fishery; the analysis results determined low ecosystem impact and no interactions with vulnerable habitats are occurring

PSA conducted to estimate the vulnerability of fish, elasmobranch and invertebrate species of commercial interest; the susceptibility among all the evaluated species (531) was high for 47 invertebrates (9%), 37 bony fishes (7%), and seven elasmobranches (1%).

Stock assessment has been conducted; a draft version has been made available

Collaboration agreement between COBI and Inapesca made available; COBI shares the information on the fishing and biological monitoring, carried out by the fishers, with the Institute.

Logbook analysis performed on the catch percentage of the FIP's main 5 species caught with handline gear.

Data collection is ongoing; the  study of reproductive biology of the Ocean whitefish has been concluded

Protocol for monitoring by-catch and habitat impacts has been developed

In June 2018,  fishing logbooks for El Rosario, Baja California were presented validated and a collaborative work plan between COBI and INAPESCA developed including plan for a technical report in Dec 2018

Increase to PI 2.2.3; Three-year audit conducted. There is adequate information available to assess the productivity and susceptibility attributes for the main secondary species and support their management strategy.

Increase to PI score 2.2.2; Three-year audit conducted. Current gear selectivity likely does not hinder the rebuilding of main secondary species and the UoA likely does not hinder their recovery.

Increase to PI 2.1.1; Three-year audit conducted. Gear selectivity has limited to no significant impact on primary species not used as bait.

BMT score 2.3.1 increase; The UoAs 1 and 2 (ocean whitefish, California sheephead, barred sand bass, starry rockfish and vermilion rockfish) have no impact on the ETP species component.

BMT score 2.2.1 increase; There are no main secondary species for the handline finfish fishery in El Rosario, BC.

BMT score 2.5.1 increase;  The target species are not likely overfished, the unwanted catch is likely minimal, there are no interactions with ETP species and little contact of the gear with the seafloor- impacts of the fishery on key ecossystem elements are null.
