SPC assesses the efficacy of the current binding WCPFC tropical tuna measure with a determination of whether the WCPO bigeye tuna stock is demonstrably rebuilding and meeting other stock management objectives.

All captains of vessels in the FIP attend a minimum of one ETP training workshop per year. FIP vessels followed a crew training in March and April 2017. 

The observer coverage rate has exceeded 5% of trips in each year that the FIP has been in existence, as documented in the Cook Islands government’s part 1 annual report to WCPFC

WCPFC established an inter-sessional working group to develop a unified shark measure for adoption in 2018, directed their Scientific Committee to consider options for expanding the sea turtle measure to include all pelagic longline fisheries, adopted a replacement seabird bycatch measure, adopted a measure on marine pollution basically emphasizing existing prohibitions under MARPOL Annex V, and other measures.
