Diplodus sargus distribution range includes the Bay of Biscay, throughout the Mediterranean, along the West coast of Africa, including Cape Verde, the Canaries, Ascension Island, Helena Island, and the Persian Gulf (IUCN 2011). No information about its stock structure nor stock assessments could be found. The Scientific, Technical, and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF) database indicates that the main catches by Spain are obtained in the southern Bay of Biscay, Portuguese waters, and the Northern Mediterranean Sea by purse seiners, bottom-set longliners, and gillnetters.
