SUMMARY

SUMMARY

IDENTIFICATION

SCIENTIFIC NAME(s)

Paralabrax humeralis

SPECIES NAME(s)

Peruvian rock seabass

The Peruvian rock seabass is endemic to the Eastern Pacific, and it is commonly found from Southern Colombia to Northern Chile (Smith-Vaniz et al. 2010). No studies have been conducted to clarify the species connectivity across its distribution range.

In Peru, mitochondrial DNA analysis of the d-Loop region revealed a very high genetic diversity, suggesting connectivity between two important fishing areas (Northern and central Peru) (Torres et al. 2015)

ANALYSIS

Strengths
  • Handlines are considered highly selective, and its use can ensure capture of adult specimens, liberating those below the minimum size-at-capture (Silvano 2020).
