SUMMARY

SUMMARY

IDENTIFICATION

SCIENTIFIC NAME(s)

Etelis coruscans

SPECIES NAME(s)

Deepwater longtail red snapper, Long-tail red snapper, Onaga

A recent study on the population structure of Etelis coruscans indicated intermittent signals of isolation for the Hawaiian Archipelago although overall, low population structure of deepwater snapper was observed and these species present the capacity for widespread dispersal throughout the Indo-Pacific region (Andrews et al. 2020). The resource is assessed within a bottomfish multi-species stock complex (Deep 7 bottomfish complex) (Langseth et al. 2018). It includes Crimson jobfish (Pristipomoides filamentosus), Oblique-banded snapper (P. zonatus), Lavender jobfish (P. seiboldii), Deepwater longtail red snapper (Etelis coruscans), Deep-water red snapper (E. carbunculus), Hawaiian grouper (Hyporthodus quernus) and Rusty jobfish (Aphareus rutilans). While the stock structure is not completed clear, this profile was based on the assessment unit.
