SUMMARY

SUMMARY

IDENTIFICATION

SCIENTIFIC NAME(s)

Concholepas concholepas

SPECIES NAME(s)

False abalone, Chilean abalone

False abalone or Loco is found from Lobos de Afuera Island in Peru to Cape Horn, Chile. A study on population genetic structure in Concholepas concholepas, indicated different spatial genetic patterns within different Chile regions: in Antofagasta Bay (northern) and Valdivia (central) there was evidence of substantial gene flow among populations, whereas in Patagonia (southern), populations showed genetic structure and a unique, genetically isolated location was identified. Thus, further studies are needed to better understand stock structure (Cárdenas et al. 2016). Two management regimes exist for this resource: open access and Management and Exploitation Areas for Benthic Resources (MEABRs) (Subpesca 2019)
