SUMMARY

SUMMARY

IDENTIFICATION

SCIENTIFIC NAME(s)

Scomber scombrus

SPECIES NAME(s)

Atlantic mackerel

Within the NE Atlantic, the species is distributed from Norway to Morocco, and from Greenland to the western Baltic Sea. Several studies have been performed to understand the stock structure and spawning components but none include Morocco (Jansen and Gislason 2013)(Jansen 2014)(Nikolioudakis et al. 2018). Therefore, and in lack of a known stock assessment conducted, a management unit is considered in Morocco. The FAO working group on African small pelagics doesn't include this species on the multi-species fishery operating in the country (FAO 2018). A biological stock is regarded separately on the European continental slope.
