(Gaither et al. 2011) consider a unique stock in the Indo-Pacific region, from Tonga (Central Pacific) to Seychelles (Western Indian Ocean), and a distinct stock in the Hawaiian arquipelago. The resource is assessed and managed by the state of Hawaii under a joint management arrangement with the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Pacific Islands Regional Office (PIRO) and the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council (WPRFMC) within a bottomfish multi-species  stock complex. It includes Crimson jobfish (Pristipomoides filamentosus), Oblique-banded snapper (P. zonatus), Lavender jobfish (P. seiboldii),Deepwater longtail red snapper (Etelis coruscans), Deep-water red snapper (E. carbunculus), Hawaiian grouper (Hyporthodus quernus) and Rusty jobfish (Aphareus rutilans(WPRFMC 2017)
