SUMMARY

SUMMARY

IDENTIFICATION

SCIENTIFIC NAME(s)

Sebastes mentella

SPECIES NAME(s)

Beaked redfish, Deepwater redfish

In the Northwest Atlantic, two biological stocks of Sebastes mentella have been recognised:
1. The Gulf of St. Lawrence and Laurentian Channel population (Units 1 +2 = NAFO () Div.3P4V+4RST+ 4Wfgj);
2. The northern population (including Grand Banks, the Labrador Shelf, Davis Strait and Baffin Bay - NAFO 0 0+2+3KLNO)

Genetic (microsatellite) markers have suggested a single genetic group or stock has been identified for beaked redfish (Sebastes mentella) in the Gulf of St. Lawrence (Unit 1) and the Laurentian Channel (Unit 2) but with some complexity described as ecotypes from more recent studies (Benestan et al. 2021)(Valentin et al. 2014).

ANALYSIS

Strengths
