Pelagic fisheries in India represent over half of the total marine fish landings in the country. Clupeids species captures are mainly comprised by Indian oil sardine (Sardinella longiceps) and other sardines, mainly Sardinella gibbosa, S. albella, S.brachysoma, S. fimbriata and S.jussieu (Rohit et al. 2024).

The current profile focus in the multispecies assessment of Sardinellas NEI in Karnataka, based on the currently implemented statewise stock assessment method (Mini et al. 2023, Sathianandan et al. 2021). A different species specific profile is available for Indian oil sardine - Karnataka
