Profile updated on 7 May 2019
Aesop shrimp, Striped shrimp, striped prawn, pink shrimp
The stock structure of Aesop shrimp is not known. Eastern and Western Assessment Zones (EAZ and WAZ) were adopted in 2011 and in 2013/2014 new Shrimp Fishing Areas (SFA) were established (and respective subdivisions) to deal with the different jurisdictions in the area (Nunavut, Nunavik and Davis Strait). This profile regards the assessment of Aesop (striped) shrimp in WAZ and the SFAs Nunavik and Nunavut (DFO 2018)(DFO 2019).
Within FishSource, the term "fishery" is used to indicate each unique combination of a flag country with a fishing gear, operating within a particular management unit, upon a resource. That resource may have a known biological stock structure and/or may be assessed at another level for practical or jurisdictional reasons. A fishery is the finest scale of resolution captured in FishSource profiles, as it is generally the scale at which sustainability can most fairly and practically be evaluated.
