Two units are assumed in the NE Atlantic region for assessment and management purposes: the first is distributed off Iceland and Faroes grounds, West of Scotland, North of Azores and East of Greenland including Subareas 5, 6, 12, and 14 (ICES 2014); and the second is distributed in the Barents Sea and Norwegian Sea covering Subareas 1 and 2 (ICES 2014).

The previous scientific name of the golden redfish, Sebastes marinus, has been replaced by S. norvegicus (Froese and Pauly 2018).

The directed fishery is closed except for handlines from boats under 15 meters from 1 June to 31 August, which however represent a minimal fraction (<1%) of the catches (ICES 2022).

ANALYSIS
