Pacific ocean perch off of the U.S. West Coast from Northern California to the Canadian Border is assessed and managed as a separate stock. However, the stock structure of this species is still not fully understood (PFMC, 2011: Kamin et al., 2013). Some recent genetic studies have identified isolation by distance and a finer scale stock structure in other areas (e.g., Gulf of Alaska) where this species occur (e.g., Palof et al., 2011; Kamin et al., 2013). More research is needed to clarify the stock structure of perch in the North Pacific.
