There are few studies focusing on population structure of common octopus in the Atlantic. However, a study by Cabranes et al. 2008 indicates the existence of fine spatial substructure, in function of geographical distance, in the Iberian Peninsula. Thus, the population of common octopus in Asturias seems to be genetically related with populations from Galicia, but differentiated from southern populations
