Anchovy has a wide geographical distribution in the Southeastern Pacific, from Punta Aguja (6°00’ S) in Northern Peru to the X Region (44°00’ S) in Southern Chile. There are four different anchovy (Engraulis ringens) stocks off the South Eastern Pacific margin, spanning from Peru down to Chile:
1. the Northern-Central Peruvian stock, managed by Peru;
2. the Southern Peru/Chilean Regions XV-I-II stock, managed by both Peru and Chile,
3. the Chilean fishery units III-IV stock, managed by Chile, and,
4. the Chilean fishery units V-X stock, also managed by Chile.
This fishery profile focuses on the Northern-central stock which covers the entire coastal zone from the Peruvian northern border to parallel 16°S.
